Love in the Limo

I really enjoy making documentary style images like this when given the opportunity. It was especially difficult yet still fun in this case when I wedged myself in the back of the crowded limo as the highly intoxicated wedding party departed the reception. The driver forgot I was in there taking photos and drove away with me still on board.

And I Won’t Forget to Put the Roses on Your Grave

There is a connection between today’s post and yesterday’s but you probably need to be a fan of the Rolling Stones to get it.

Ten Second Portrait

I photographed a wedding the other day and was scheduled to photograph the groom and his party in this antique barn adjacent to the wedding venue. They were supposed to arrive in time to allow for an hour and a half of photography prior to the ceremony. Of course they were an hour and a half late and exactly when they arrived at the barn for photos the wedding coordinator arrived and announced that photo time was over and the gentlemen were needed immediately at the wedding venue. I quickly gathered everyone for a group shot as the wedding coordinator protested and then as everyone turned around and was running out of the barn I asked the groom to stop and sit on this barrel so that I could at least squeeze in one formal portrait. I plopped a light stand down, moved to the side and fired off this shot. As I checked the screen on the camera to see how the lighting looked the groom hopped down and ran off, so like it or not, this is his formal portrait. Lucky for me I had steady hands when I snapped the shot, I looked later at the camera data and realized the shutter speed was all the way down to 1/10th of a second, yikes!

Bookstore Noir

For Goodness Snake

This is from a portrait session in my studio this weekend. This is one of a few shots where I deviated from the portrait aspect of the shoot to get something more artistic in nature.

Cut the Cake

A bit of fun with the wedding cake.

Another Wedding

I photographed another wedding on Friday so I decided to post a set of images from the event here today.

Father-Son Moment

I decided that since I had the image files handy I would post another candid shot from that wedding that captured the happiness of the day.

Tears of Joy

Ive been shooting a few weddings lately and thought I would post something from the most recent one here today for a change of pace. When it comes to weddings I have to admit that I’m not really a fan of the posed shots and I truly prefer to try and capture genuine moments of expression.

I Love My Job!

Doing this for a living sure beats sitting behind a desk. It’s not always this dirty though, in fact right after this shoot I rinsed myself and the cameras off, (they are waterproof) changed into a suit and shot a wedding. Never a dull moment.

Take a Flying Leap

Although I have been photographing a lot of them lately, luxury homes aren’t the only assignments I’ve been doing. This is from an editorial shoot I did for an equestrian magazine last week.

It’s Pizza Time

Another image from my archives. Just one of the countless random shots that I tend to make whenever I’m out and about with a camera at hand.

Strike a Pose

This is just a quick behind-the-scenes shot that I made while I was teaching a workshop designed to help photographers communicate more effectively with models.

Carnival Colors

It’s been raining a lot here lately. One nice thing about the rain is the way it makes everything reflective and colorful at night.

Last Shots From the Track

I just wanted to post a few more of my favorite shots from the motocross track before moving on to posting other things.

Sky Pilot

After a morning of rain that turned the track into a virtual mudhole the skies cleared and made a terrific backdrop for the aerial maneuvers of the colorfully clad riders.

Get Close, Get Dirty, Get the Shot

I had the opportunity to shoot at the local motocross track yesterday right after it rained. The mud was flying everywhere and getting in close for shots like this meant getting plastered with it. I had to wash off the cameras and lenses a couple of times during the shoot. Everyone else was using delicate brushes and air blowers to keep their equipment serviceable and they all got a kick out of watching me pour a bottle of drinking water over my cameras and lenses to clean them off.

Making a Splash

I went out to this ski show over the weekend and photographed some of it just for fun. Since it was just for fun I decided to make it an exercise for myself. I put an old 200mm lens on the camera and practiced tracking focus manually with it. I enjoyed the challenge of trying keep the fast-moving skiers sharp the old-school way with just my eyes and hands instead of with microcomputers and motors.

Melissa

I was teaching a seminar this weekend and Melissa was the volunteer model.  At 15 years of age she had no prior modeling experience whatsoever but turned out to be one of those people who light up in front of a camera and are a real pleasure to work with. Everyone really enjoyed photographing her during the session.

Midnight Rider

I took some time out one evening last week to just shoot for fun with some other photographers at Dave Cross’ studio. Dave had a motorcycle in one corner that served as fun prop to make some shots with.

Young Love

A nice little moment of quiet emotion that I captured while photographing the formal portraits of this young couple at their wedding recently.

Pictured With a Picture Window

I haven’t done any personal shooting in a while, shooting for clients has been keeping me very busy. So for today, I’m posting something I’m working on right now. This is from a series of promotional images for a real estate client that I just shot.

Where’s the Fire?

As I turned onto 7th Ave walking to my studio the other day this truck flew by through the intersection. I had a 100mm lens on my camera and just managed to swing it up and grab this panning shot. This image is the complete frame, no cropping. It was just a quick, instinctive reaction. I only squeezed off this one shot and admittedly surprised myself by pretty much nailing it. It’s the eye contact with the fireman on the far side of the cab that makes this one work for me.

I Shot the Shooter

While out on a photowalk with the Tampa Bay Camera Club I decided to turn my camera on one of the other members.
