These are a Few of My Favorite Things
I’ve been hearing the song a lot during the holiday season so for fun today I put this little diptych together. Merry Christmas!
Looking Up
For the first time in what seems like forever I took a night off from processing images for clients and spent some time in the woods. I brushed the dust off my old telescope and and really enjoyed looking at the cosmos for a change instead of looking at a computer screen. This image shows a clear sky full of stars and planets through a stand of trees that were illuminated by the flickering light of my campfire. Jupiter can be seen straight up through the trees in the constellation of Taurus.
Tiny Stream
I always enjoy returning to this little stream with my camera because the vivid color of the algae that covers the rocks contrasts so well with the autumn leaves and the sky color that the moving water reflects.
Not a Raincloud in Sight
I wanted to make an image that made a statement about the arid desert landscape in this location. The low angle perspective and the harsh bright sunlight were a couple of the elements that I used to make it work.
Living Color
Whenever I travel west I never cease to be amazed by the multitude of colors and textures that exist in the wilderness.
Elk in the Desert
We encountered this elk in Chaco Canyon and were able to get a fair amount of good photos of it before it decided to run off.
Keep Looking Up
There are as many photo opportunities looking up from within a narrow canyon as there are in any other direction.
Chaco Canyon by Moonlight
We were blessed with crystal clear skies in the canyon all day yesterday and into the night. When the moon came up over the mesa it illuminated the entire canyon with it’s bright light and we really enjoyed standing beneath the stars in the silence of the desert photographing the moonlit vista.
Teeny, Tiny, Tree Frog
I was out early Sunday morning to shoot an equestrian event and spotted this little frog in the grass. It could have fit on a quarter with room to spare. I snapped a few quick shots of it and then got back to shooting my assignment.
The Greens of Summer
Yes I admit it – I could hear Paul Simon singing “Kodachrome” in my head as I laid down in the grass to make this image.
Gigantic Mushrooms
I was out for a bike ride the other night and I spotted this cluster of mushrooms on the bank of a retention pond. They were hard to miss because they were the biggest mushrooms I have ever seen in my life. No exaggeration – the largest mushroom in this cluster was the diameter of a soccer ball. I used my phone to take a few shots before riding off into the sunset.
Sandia Sunset
Sandia Mountain gets it’s name from turning the color of a watermelon at sunset. This is a view of the rugged side of the mountain from the far bank of the Rio Grande.
A Light Sprinkling of Snow
With all the oppressive heat that we are suffering from around here is it any wonder that I keep daydreaming of being here?
The Beauty of the Badlands
Bright morning sun and and a blue sky are the perfect complement to this distorted landscape.
Earth and Sky
I was spending some time revamping some of my marketing material for my New Mexico photo tour and came across a bunch of images from past trips that never made it to being posted here. Here is one from the Ojito Wilderness.
Hibiscus
I had a few minutes of free time at home the other day so I took advantage of it and made a quick trip around my back yard with a macro lens. This hibiscus blossom was one of the highlights of my little excursion.
