Morning Mist
This time of year the mist hangs in the woods for a long time in the morning before dissipating in the face of the sun.
The Answer is Blowin’ in the Wind
The pollen is blowin’ in the wind as well. I hate this time of year. I am terribly allergic to pollen. I have been taking allergy medication for nearly two months now and simply feel like I am muddling through life in a haze because of it. It’s awfully hard to be creative when it feels as if you are expending all your energy just to keep from falling asleep at the traffic lights.
Patient Vulture
Waiting for the mist to clear and the sun to break free from the clouds. The vultures prefer to wait until the sun can create thermal updrafts on which to circle and glide. This helps them conserve energy as they scan the wilderness for food.
I Love the Woods (Infrared Image)
I especially love the woods when I have my infrared camera with me. The medium really allows me to bring out the intricate designs of the interesting trees that I so often encounter as I wander.
Watercolor Sky
I was in a bit of an artistic mood this weekend and this image provided a nice canvas for me to work with. The image was dark and moody with storm clouds to begin with so I simply built upon what was there as I worked with it.
Moony Blues
I was out on a long hike and night descended while I was still some distance from camp. I came upon this scene without a tripod but thankfully the high ISO capability in my primary camera allowed me to get the shot without the need for stabilization.
Hanging in There
Although this was actually rather monochromatic and drab when I photographed it a while back I had a more vibrant presentation in mind. I finally took a few minutes to work on it and realize my pre-visualization.
Paint a Picture of the Forest
Just found this pic while working on a project last night. This a rare photo that I made with an old point and shoot camera that I keep handy in my console for quick shots and fun shots. No, the effect didn’t come from Photoshop. This was from a series of shots that I made by setting a slow shutter on the camera and holding it against the window while driving fast on a winding mountain road.
Continuity
Even when photographing animals I’m looking for opportunities to render something artistic with my lens. It doesn’t always work out but I’m happy when it does.
Playing Chicken With a Sandstorm
The strong winds yesterday kicked up a sudden sandstorm that I had to contend with while shooting on a ranch. Of course My thoughts at the time were to shoot first, take cover second.
On the Hunt Again
It’s that time of year again when I go out with this equestrian group and for the better part of the week I run around in the woods and swamps by day looking for shots like this and by night I shoot the parties and a formal ball that they put on. It’s a fun job that I look forward to every year.
Pearls
As the sun began to rise it’s light caught in the dew on this web and attracted my attention. It’s so nice when I can be in a place where I can appreciate the simple beauty of nature.
Morning Serenity
The deep quiet of the predawn wilderness was very calming as I walked through the mist with my camera in search of scenes like this.
Down on the Ground
Whenever I walk through the woods and swamps with a camera I stay on the lookout for fallen maple leaves. They never fail to provide vibrant subject matter.
Living Color
This is a 1:1 macro photograph of a small lichen that I found growing on the trunk of a tree. I really like the range of colors that existed in the scene. The candy-cane red contrasted so nicely with the minty green parts of the lichen and also the vivid green moss on the tree trunk.
Swamp Stuff
I went for an impromptu walk through some woods and a swamp the other day and came upon this moss covered palm tree stump in a shallow stream that was reflecting the deep blue afternoon sky.
Underwater Scene
These colorful leaves were lying beneath the water on the bottom of a crystal clear mountain stream.
The Tide Rushes In
Long after the sun had set the ceaseless cycle of waves continued to wash ashore beneath the deep purple twilight sky.
The Sun Goes Down Alone
A chilly December evening and there was no one at the beach to see the sun set except me.
Outdoor Carpeting
I very much prefer to have this underfoot instead of asphalt or concrete when I’m outside.
