Sneak Peek

A bit of visual proof that those sacks are filled with something delicious.

Contrast

Warm color vs. cool, sharp vs. soft, light vs. dark, man-made vs. natural, hard vs. soft, heavy vs. lightweight, repetition vs. singular…you get the idea.

The Final Journey

The late afternoon light was soft and warm through the window of this little shrine, gently illuminating a touching scene.

Dirty Window

I’m glad no one had time to do any spring cleaning before I walked by this storefront with my camera.

Moon and Venus

I was making a print of this image for someone and realized that even though I posted it here on my photo journal once before that was at least 8 years ago. I figured since I had the file in front of me I would go ahead and rerun it because by now it will be new to most people who look at my journal these days.

Symme-tree

The direction of light on this tree and it’s placement with respect to the adobe wall made me stop in my tracks as I was walking by. Using adobe as a background in compositions is one of my favorite things to do.

Nearly Abstract

I have an undenial penchant for very simple geometric compositions. This fresh paint in an alley near my studio caught my eye the other day and made me happy.

Tropical Storm

There’s an old saying about bad weather making good photographs. I have always agreed.

Castles Made of Sand…

…Fall in the sea, eventually.

Fake Flowers Floating in a Fountain

Just one of those little scenes that caught my eye while shooting at an event this weekend.

Stop and Shoot the Roses

My wife has a lot of roses around the house. I walk by them with a camera around my neck several times a day on my way to my truck and back and once in a while I take the time to shoot them when they catch my eye.

Purple Haze

I’m overwhelmed with client work this week as a major magazine deadline is approaching and everyone wants me to shoot something at the last minute to get published. So I’m still not shooting anything for myself. As a matter of fact I’m hardly even getting any sleep because I’m shooting assignments until at least 9:00 pm each night and then driving home and processing files until the wee hours and then I start over again. So here is another random image pulled from my archives that I never got around to posting here in the past.

Storms

It has been so long it has rained around here. Yesterday the skies finally clouded up and storms rolled through all day and night. As you probably know by now I love to shoot in the rain so I took some time for myself between appointments to do just that. I got totally drenched and enjoyed every minute of it.

The Road Less Traveled

In the mountains of New Mexico. I’m really looking forward to the next photography tour that I’m leading here later this year.

Every Pawn is a Potential Queen

Part of the ornate grand staircase inside Plant Hall at the University of Tampa.

Splash

Bright sun + splashing water = high contrast photo fun.

Van Gogh Tree

As soon as I saw this tree in the late afternoon light I was reminded of Vincent’s brush strokes. I processed the image accordingly.

Beachcomber

When I was walking down the beach to get setup for the moonrise photos I took this photo. I was walking with a dozen other photographers at the time and I don’t recall seeing any of them stop to take a shot of this scene. One thing I usually try to avoid is getting in the mindset that I am on a mission to take just one sort of photo. I try to keep my eyes and my mind open to anything that is interesting, whether or not it is what I am supposed to be shooting.

Tampa Bay Moonrise #1

Friday, on the night of the full moon, the skies turned perfectly clear and cloud-free and I knew there would be no problem seeing the moon rise up beneath the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. It was quite a beautiful sight when it made its appearance. This is the first shot I took that evening. Tomorrow I will post one of the later shots taken as the moon loomed over the bridge in the clear night sky. Click on the pic to see a larger size.

Broken Rules

Use a tripod in low light, focus carefully and so forth. Well not necessarily…

Wild Blue Yonder

When I was walking the flight line at the airshow I gave myself an assignment to try not to shoot any “typical” photos of the aircraft there.

Soaring

Somehow I have actually managed to fit a bit of creative shooting just for myself into my schedule lately. It’s been nice to have the opportunity to be artistic with the camera again.

Walk Toward the Light

I like to shoot in the streets of Ybor City around my studio. When it rains I especially like to get out and shoot. I have a thing about watching for people walking when I’m doing it and I make it a personal challenge to artistically include them in my compositions.

Walk On By

Rainy day photo fun.
