Nature vs Photoshop
I got out of the truck to shoot in the woods and it started raining. My lens got wet and fogged over. I didn’t even consider wiping it off. Mother Nature came up with her own special effects and I decided to roll with it.
Fun With Film
I make my living with state-of-the-art digital cameras but lately I have felt myself missing the experience of shooting on film with my old mechanical cameras. I still have every camera I’ve ever owned and recently I dusted off a couple of them and put them back into service. I have started to shoot again with a select few of my old favorites. Specifically they are a couple of Polaroid bodies, a 35mm SLR and a medium format TLR. This negative is from the medium format body, specifically a 1966 vintage Mamiya C33 Professional Twin Lens Reflex camera. It’s like having a reunion with a long-lost friend.
Looking Up
For the first time in what seems like forever I took a night off from processing images for clients and spent some time in the woods. I brushed the dust off my old telescope and and really enjoyed looking at the cosmos for a change instead of looking at a computer screen. This image shows a clear sky full of stars and planets through a stand of trees that were illuminated by the flickering light of my campfire. Jupiter can be seen straight up through the trees in the constellation of Taurus.
Burnt Woods
I’ve found myself working with patterns the last few days. This is one of the images that I have been toying with.
Follow Me
Whenever I find myself on a road like this I hear the siren song in my head beckoning me each time I turn a corner to keep going to the next turn, and then the next, and the next…
Morning Mist
This time of year the mist hangs in the woods for a long time in the morning before dissipating in the face of the sun.
I Love the Woods (Infrared Image)
I especially love the woods when I have my infrared camera with me. The medium really allows me to bring out the intricate designs of the interesting trees that I so often encounter as I wander.
Wilderness (Infrared Image)
I knew the instant I walked into this wilderness area that I wanted to shoot it in infrared. I haven’t worked in that medium for a while and the scenery here was just what I needed to inspire me again.
